Zoology and Botany department
The dissection and preparation rooms of the Zoology department are ideally equipped to prepare and preserve vertebrates such as small mice or the magnificent white-tailed eagle. Every piece of information available is also recorded in a database and can be retrieved at any time.
The zoological repository is best suited for storing these collections. The collections contain hides, skeletons and plucked feathers, together with animals preserved in alcohol. New dead specimens are handed in to the Sammelsurium all the time, enabling further research work to be carried out.
Zoology collection
Since 1990, the work carried out by the Zoology department has focused on compiling the most extensive possible ecofauna series of vertebrates from the western part of Upper Lusatia.
Botanical collection
The Museum of West Lusatia’s botanical collection currently comprises 2,714 catalogued specimens.
